The Doppelganger of Emilie Sagee
The 1845 the infamous case of Emilie Sagee’s doppelganger involved multiple witnesses and multiple episodes. These reports suggest bi-location and do not warn of death. According to a story reported to American writer Robert Dale Owen, by Julie von Guldenstubbe, one of the many witnesses of Sagee’s doppelganger, Emilie Sagee, a 32 year old French teacher, was hired to teach at the Pensionat von Neuwelcke School for daughters of nobility.
Rumors soon abounded of seeing Sagee in two places at the same time. One would report that she was in a specific location, while another would report having seen her elsewhere. On one particular day, Sagee was in the midst of teaching a lesson to 13 young girls. As Sagee proceeded to write the lesson on the board, an identical image of Sagee appeared at her side, mimicking her actions of writing on the board. The two images were identical except Sagee wrote with chalk and the double had none. All 13 girls gave identical accounts of the incident.
Later, while assisting a young girl fastening her dress, prior to attending local festivities, the girl looked in the mirror and saw both Sagee and her double. The young lady was so frightened by this that she immediately fainted.
Sagee and her doppelganger were observed numerous times during dinner. As Sagee sat and ate her dinner, a doppelganger was observed standing behind her and mimicking her motions. Again this double’s hands held no utensils.
On one occasion, 42 students witnessed Sagee’s mysterious double. Seated in the classroom working on their embroidery, the girls observed Sagee picking flowers in the garden while her double sat in the chair at the head of the table. When several of the bravest girls approached this double, they discovered they could walk right through the image causing no effect on the doppelganger.
